Finnbar Art Home
Garfield County, CO
Set on 2.5 acres in a riverside neighborhood in Carbondale, this residence was designed as a series of intimate spaces shaped by art, landscape, and daily living. The single-level home balances a quiet architectural presence with strong spatial clarity, using linear forms and grounded stone volumes to define interior and exterior areas throughout the site. Designed for contemporary art gallery owners, the home provides a calm, gallery-like backdrop for an extensive personal collection while maintaining a sense of warmth and livability.
Art and sculpture were considered from the earliest stages of the design process, with installations carefully positioned to shape movement and create focal points throughout the home and landscape. The owners’ deep involvement in craftsmanship and detail became central to the character of the project, from the hand-charred wood siding inspired by traditional Japanese techniques to the custom cabinetry and interior detailing. Separate from the main residence, a small studio and workshop was designed for music composition and instrument building, creating a quieter creative space connected to both the landscape and the architecture around it.
